James R. Pranger - Partner

Jim has over 35 years of experience as a civil trial lawyer. He represents individuals, corporations and institutions in a wide array of probate, trust, contract, employment, and other cases. In addition to Illinois state and federal courts, Jim has tried cases in federal and/or state venues in New York, Ohio, Nebraska, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. He has handled appeals in multiple Illinois Appellate Districts and federal appeals courts. In addition to his trial and appellate work, he represents clients in arbitrations, mediations and state and federal administrative agency proceedings.

Jim is the author of the Citations to Discover Assets chapter of Litigating Disputed Estates, Trusts, Guardianships, and Charitable Bequests (IICLE, 2016, 2021). He co-authored the 2004 Supplement to Employment Discrimination (IICLE, 2004). He has made presentations to various organizations on topics including Probate Citations to Discover and Recover assets, employment law and managing media coverage in civil litigation.

Jim is a member in good standing of the bars of the states of Illinois and Texas. He is admitted to both the General and Trial bars of the U.S. Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and is admitted to the U.S. Courts Of Appeal for the Fourth and Seventh Circuits, as well as the United States Supreme Court.

An alumni who graduated magna cum laude from the Honors Program at Loyola University of Chicago and cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law, prior to joining Peter J. Latz & Associates, Jim was a Partner at Neal Gerber & Eisenberg, and previously has been a partner at both McDermott, Will & Emery and at Chuhak & Tecson (where he was chair of the litigation practice committee).
